"There's no way! "These were the words of every doctor we've come in contact with over the past 3 days, "there is no way that one little guy can have neuroblastoma AND pyloric stenosis." Well, our little guy has found a way!
After a bout of projectile vomiting on Saturday we took Luke to the PCH Emergency Room on Saturday night. His condition worsened to the point that he could not keep anything down and they had to vacuum out his tummy. We stayed in the ER overnight and first thing Sunday he had an ultrasound that confirmed that he did in fact have pyloric stenosis, a stomach condition totally unrelated to the neuroblastma. With this condition the muscle between the stomach and the small intestine becomes overdeveloped and actually blocks the food from moving into the intestinal track. This causes the food to go the only other direction - back out again. The procedure to fix this requires going in and slicing the pyloric muscle to allow it to relax and open up again.
So . . .on Sunday afternoon Luke underwent this procedure as well as a double hernia operation and a circumcision. He currently has 4 healing incision wounds and a bleeding wee-wee. No fun! He is now resting and healing and trying to keep fluid down. He will be here until he can feed regularly and keep everything down. Joe and I are hopeful that he will make a full recovery and grateful for Dr. Graziano (our awesome surgeon) and the other wonderful doctors here at at PCH. Luke continues to be strong and content. As a great T-shirt that Joe's friend Eric got Luke states, "The Force is Strong With This One"!
Please continue to keep Luke in your thoughts and prayers as he faces this new set of challenges. We look forward to getting him home (again), getting back to work, getting some sleep (!) and getting back to "normal". We appreciate everyone's offers to help and are so lucky to have such a great support system.

Im glad Luke to hear is feeling better. Neuroblastoma happens in the embryonic stage and lots of kids do in fact have hernias, small (non-threatening) heart defects VSDs, and all kind of stenosis in the intestines, liver, kidneys. Its really common to have stenosis along with NB.
Im only telling you this because our child had the same kind of NB when he was an infant (and is doing GREAT!) but has had a lot of other weird things as I mentioned above. Overtime, we've learned they were all related to the same developmental period in the embryo when the NB developed. Just an FYI- it sounds like you are so vigilant but any weird symptom- get checked out thoroughly everytime! Good luck- im so glad to hear things are going well in the neuroblastoma land.
I just wanted to pass on that your family is in good hands with God and all of the people praying for you. Your strength and ability to still have a sense of humor are really admirable!
