Previews are over . . . and the reviews are in!

It's like when you're in a long running show and you've lived through previews, and then opening, and then reviews, and after all of those things are behind you you can settle into your role and really make it your own. It's this way with parenting too. Now that we have lived through the newborn (and all of the extra trauma that came with it) we are beginning to feel that we can actually play these roles and get good reviews all at the same time!

You know, when you're pregnant everyone LOVES to tell you how hard it is and how little sleep you'll get so that you are prepared for those things when the baby comes. But what they don't tell you is that that stage only lasts for 6-8 weeks and after that it gets easier - a lot easier. So at about 5 weeks I am thinking, "Why in God's name do people do this?" and "Am I EVER going to sleep again?" not knowing that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Now I am making sure that all of my friends who are having babies know that the fatigue, frustration, and extreme challenge of having a newborn subsides after the first few weeks. Extreme fatigue is replaced with mild exhaustion, screaming is replaced with googly laughter, and sleepy, closed eyes are replaced with intense gazes yearning to understand the world.

Thanks to all of you who continue to ask about and pray for Luke. He is doing GREAT! :)

Love,
Jessica
